THE GOSPEL SEGMENT of this year's Oistins Fish Festival featured brand new faces and fresh and exciting award-winning voices, when local gospel artistes appeared at the Bay Garden bandstand for the Easter Sunday night's Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)- sponsored music festival.
Headlining the acts is the 50-voice choir from the Lester Vaughn Secondary School, a spiritual gospel group, with an exciting repertoire.
The school choir, under the baton of its director of music, Michelle Williams, is expected to present selections from its wide range of contemporary music, as well as Negro Spirituals.
It featured in the Western Light Festival of Choirs last month. -
The choir will share the stage with another gospel group, G Syndicate, an in- demand a camellia ensemble founded out of the Anglican Church and growing with increasing popularity. G Syndicate won an award at the Flame Gospel Awards ceremony last Sunday night (March 9).
Gospel Fest coordinator, Oscar Lovell, whose aim it has also been to scout for and present exciting gospel artistes at the Oistins' show, is bubbling with excitement about this year's event, which has for its the theme: Glorification.
New-electerd Member of Parliament for Christ Church South, Minister of Transport, Works and International Business, John Boyce, was in attendance and deliverd an address.
Also appearing on stage will be Marlese Daniel, an officer of the gospel show's sponsors, KFC, which has been supporting Gospel Fest since 2006.
Other acts for the 2008 show include Soul Winners, Gospel Band of the Year for 2006, "ever green" gospel artiste Sister Marshall, the Allegiance, and Lively Stones groups. Ryan Miller emceed the show.
