CORRETTA BRATHWAITE, a representative of Guyana's Rockstone Fish Festival, will share the platform with Member of Parliament for Christ Church South John Boyce, at the official opening of the 2008 Oistins Fish Festival on March 22.
Rockstone, a sprawling fishing community in upper Demerara River, about 65 miles south of Georgetown and 18 miles from the bauxite town of Linden, founded as Mackenzie in 1759.
Brathwaite is one of two Rockstone representatives in Barbados to observe the management of the Easter weekend event and determine what could be taken back to Guyana to help improve the Rockstone Festival, launched in 2006 with the assistance of Dan Carter, chairman of the local festival committee.
The representatives, guests of the Oistins Fish Festival Committee, will also attend the final committee meeting for the festival at the Christ Church Parish Centre on March 17 and later meet representatives of the Oistins Fisherfolk Association and others involved in the local fishing industry.
They are also expected to visit the Bridgetown and Speightstown Fisheries terminals and a number of other fish-landing sites during their stay.
Rector of the Christ Church Parish Church and chaplain of the festival, Rev. Austin Carrington said the prayers at the opening ceremony.
